Colorado Vacation--Macklemore, Dino Poop, and the Quantum Theory (AZ to Colorado)

So I'm not saying that you should start every vacation this way...but it definitely isn't a bad idea either!

We began our vacation on Wednesday evening by making a little side trip to Phoenix to see Macklemore and Kesha in concert with my awesome in-laws. The concert was at Ak-Chin Pavilion and we had amazing seats. Center section, two rows before the lawn area!

We (mostly I) sang and danced for 4 hours. My mother in law and I did some serious people watching. I taught husband about the "Encore" performance. It's not very often I get to teach him something like this, so it is worth writing about! I mean, you've got Macklemore AND Kesha in concert together and they hadn't sang "Good Ol' Days" yet, and husband says its over! NO WAY! I think he doubted my faith that they would come back out to sing it. I insisted we stay. The crowd got rowdy and sure enough, the Encore performance! And it was epic.

The concert ended at 11. We said "See ya later" to the parentals and headed north! Our goal was to get to Cottonwood. Before either of us knew it, it was 2am and we were 15 miles outside of Flagstaff. We debated whether we should just pull off on a dirt road and sleep in the car for a few hours, or find a cheap room. We decided a shower and a continental breakfast would be a good start to the following morning. We stayed here. It's a nice and simple motel located right off of Historic Route 66 in Flagstaff. The price was really reasonable for the quality of the room and the breakfast the following morning.

Four-ish hours later we were semi-rested and ready to get to Colorado! We headed north on Rt 66 until it turned into the 89A heading out of Flagstaff. An hour or two into the drive we hit the HWY 160 Junction towards Tuba City. Just a few miles into this leg of the drive Husband saw a billboard to "Dinosaur Tracks". So you KNOW we made a pit stop.

Fossilized Dino Poop?
Dinosaur head...
Right there in the middle of, seemingly, nowhere (about 5 miles outside of Tuba City) were some dinosaur tracks! The road was marked well with signage and took us to some stands set up with Native American jewelry and various items. For a tip, a man will walk you around this sort of flat area with some pretty cool fossils and dinosaur related tracks.
Some Fossils and Dino Tracks

It is not totally crazy to assume that this could indeed have been a legitimate sight for such things (even though I was skeptical), and the guide was extremely knowledgeable about the various excavations that had taken place at this site over the years. We enjoyed the tour and the walk to stretch our legs!

Our next planned stopped was the Four Corners Monument just outside of Teec Nos Pos! You know that idea of being in two places at once? Well, for $5 per adult, you can!! In fact, at Four Corners Monument, you can be in four different states at one time! Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico all share a piece of this geographical location.

Those looking for some neat souvenirs can certainly find them here! T-shirts, Magnets, jewelry, Christmas Ornaments, arrowheads, stickers, etc. are for sell all along the outskirts of the monument itself. We walked the perimeter and then waited out turn to take a stand! Patience is required as kids bend over backwards and twist and turn their arms and legs in an effort to get a photo of them in 4 places at once!

It was pretty warm out and after our photo-op we decided to hit the road once again. Within a few minutes we had crossed over in to Colorado!

Up next...lunch along the Delores, Telluride, and our #glamping AirBNB...check back soon!
